As a young boy growing up in the British Virgin Islands in the seventies, it was disrespectful not to acknowledge anyone you came in contact with, especially if that person was an adult. Good morning, good afternoon and good night were the greetings most often used. To this day I acknowledge everyone I come in contact with even if I don't care for that person or I know that person don't care for me.
